Painting for Pleasure

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy

Painting for Pleasure acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all vulnerable adults involved in Painting for Pleasure from harm.

The Key Principles of the Painting for Pleasure Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy are that:

The welfare of the vulnerable adult is, and must always be, paramount to any other considerations.

All participants regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, race, faith, culture, size, shape, language or sexual identity have the right to protection from abuse or harm.

All allegations or suspicions of abuse, neglect, harm and poor practice will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly, fairly and appropriately.

Working in partnership with other organisations, statutory agencies, parents, and carers is essential for the welfare of vulnerable adults.

Painting for Pleasure recognises that all vulnerable adults have the right to participate in art activities in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment whilst at the same time being protected from abuse, neglect, harm and poor practice. Painting for Pleasure recognises that this is the responsibility of everyone involved, in whatever capacity, at the Painting for Pleasure art classes.

The Chairman of Painting for Pleasure is Jayne Canning. If you witness or are aware of an incident where the welfare of a vulnerable adult has been put at risk you must in the first instance inform the Chairman. If an incident involves the Chairman you should inform another member of the committee.

All members of Painting for Pleasure who have a regular supervisory contact with vulnerable adults must undertake an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.

Painting for Pleasure will ensure that all its members follow the Best Practice Guidance as stated below. In summary, the following are NOT acceptable and will be treated seriously by Painting for Pleasure and may result in disciplinary action being taken by Painting for Pleasure.

Working alone with a vulnerable adult, or adults.

Consuming alcohol whilst responsible for vulnerable adults.

Providing alcohol to vulnerable adults or allowing its supply.

Humiliating vulnerable adults.

Inappropriate or unnecessary physical contact with a vulnerable adult.

Having an intimate or sexual relationship with any vulnerable adult developed as a result of being in a ‘position of trust.’

Making sexually explicit comments or sharing sexually explicit material.

POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

The welfare of vulnerable adults at Painting for Pleasure will only be protected properly if guidance is implemented effectively. Painting for Pleasure has devised these written policies which cover its own particular circumstances, and meets its particular needs, and will ensure these policies are followed fully. Painting for Pleasure Policies are publicised on the Painting for Pleasure website, and in a policy document folder held in the Westbury Centre.
